Accurate 6 Degree-of-Freedom camera based positioning is necessary for a number of current and emerging markets such as Augmented Reality, autonomous robotics, and navigation. Currently, proprietary solutions are being developed which preclude cross-platform support and slow development. An open standard is needed to facilitate cross-platform functionality and speed development towards universal mapping and localization.
