Bringing the Land of the Dead to Life: The Making of Coco VR

Delve into the making of Coco VR, the stunning virtual reality experience set inside the world of Disney•Pixar’s Oscar-winning animated film, with Kalan Ray, Development Supervisor at Magnopus. In this session, Kalan will discuss how Magnopus and Disney•Pixar teams collaborated closely – including working together within VR itself – to expand the world of Coco as an experience fans can share with their friends on Oculus Rift and Gear VR.

With Pixar’s very first virtual reality experience, the teams took an opportunity to explore new ground and push the limits of what is possible in the medium. Developers and creators worked together to transport you into the Land of the Dead, building a world where friends can play together — players can create customizable skeleton avatars, take in the views from a 360-rendered gondola ride, snap and share photos from the photo booth, explore a gallery of intricate concept art and more.

The result is a richly detailed experience that expands upon the film and gives fans an immersive new experience. With Coco VR, Magnopus and Disney•Pixar created an incredibly detailed extension of the Coco cinematic adventure.
