Virtual Training in the Access Industry

Room B4

Currently, operator training programs take about eight hours to complete, with four hours being in a classroom and the other four hours being hands-on training. Due to this, the audience is maxed out at 12, but during the hands-on training, participants only spend 40-minutes operating a machine. The other 200-minutes are spent waiting for their turn or for all other participants to finish. To improve operator training, there needed to be an increase in hands-on controls training and practice time, with a reduction in trainee idle time and evaluation time. The virtual reality training simulator assists with these improvements.

The goal of virtual reality training in the access industry is to provide a safe place to practice and learn. It thoroughly trains operators to be proficient on the mobile elevated work platform control system, improving the confidence of those that are first time operators.
